UPROOTED
by Ellis Stump
COVID-19 cuts short Zora’s yearlong writing residency, sending her from Vancouver Island back to New York City. The outdoor life she grew to love, breathing fresh air and creating art alongside more-than-friend Aspen, feels like a fever dream, woken abruptly by isolation, unemployment, and loneliness. Over FaceTime, Zora travels through all five stages of grief - from reflecting humbly upon her Jewish ancestors’ endurance, to fantasizing about both the duo’s and planet’s potentially bright, sustainable futures - as Aspen supports from afar. Can they preserve, even cultivate, their rituals and connection?

A sloppy-knotted comedy about the failings of communication within love and pleasure to connect in mutual support/interest. Claire and Heather are starting to show cracks from the subtle disregard of support that their relationship has been in need of. More strain is added with the arrival of Leon, whose very real nerves and anxieties towards sex interfere with Claire’s plan to spice up her life with Heather.
