ACADEMY

Summer 2022

 

The Actor’s Academy at MiraCosta College is an intense summer program that has been lovingly

called “actor bootcamp.” It is designed for actors who are talented and trainable. Experience is

not a prerequisite for admission.

 Admission is by audition only.

 Auditions are May 3 rd from 5:00-9:00pm

Facts:

Actor’s Academy runs Monday-Friday, for 5 weeks, 9am-7pm.

Dates for summer 2022 are June 13-July 15.

There is a performance in the final week of the session, July 13-14.

Classes Include:

  •  Movement for the Stage

  •  Voice and Diction

  •  Shakespearean Acting Lab (1 st year students)

  •  Advanced Acting Lab (2 nd year students)

  •  Rehearsal and Performance

Tuition/Fees/Books

  •  Enrollment includes 5 units of credit at MiraCosta College.

  •  Resident tuition is currently 5 units for $230 + $20 course fee. There may be other

  • college fees. Non-resident tuition available online at: www.miracosta.edu

  •  Fees are current as of 3/5/2022 and subject to change.

  •  A copy of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare is required. No additional books

  • are required.

  • If you are ready for a life changing experience, we urge you to apply!

 

Audition Requirements

 

  •  2 contrasting monologues, not to exceed 3 minutes total length. For the 2022 auditions, second year (Track II) students are not required to do Shakespeare.

  •  Interview- we will ask you a simple question to get to know why you wantto do Actor’s Academy or what you hope to get out of a summer experience like this

  •  Improvisation- we will call you on to the stage with 3-5 other actors to work on an improvisation together. We are looking for your ability to work on a team, take the stage when necessary and give the stage when appropriate

  • You will be asked to fill out an application on your arrival. Please come 10-15 minutes early for your audition to get this done.

A Typical Week

 

Monday-Friday

9:00-11:30 MOVEMENT

11:30-12:30 LUNCH

12:30-2:35 VOICE

2:35-2:45 BREAK

2:45-4:50 ACTING LAB (occasional scene seminar)

5:00-6:55 REHEARSAL

Notice how short the breaks are. There is not really time to run errands during the day.

 

Actor’s Academy Dress Code

 

There is a strict dress code that applies to all students who are accepted into the program.

While it may seem unusual to you, it is typical of conservatories to require students to dress in

this neutral manner. It will keep you from “costuming” yourself for class each day and set you

up for working in a more professional manner. You will start to enjoy the freedom of crawling

out of bed and being worry free about your attire for the day.

NO SHOWING UNDIES, NO “CRACKS”, NO BELLIES

DO…DRESS FOR COMFORT- NOT STYLE

DO…USE GOOD DEODERANT! WE ARE CLOSE AND WE DON’T WANT TO SMELL

YOUR BRAND OF MUSK.
